In the aftermath of Malaysia’s recent devastating floods, thousands were left displaced, without basic necessities, and facing the daunting task of rebuilding their lives. Amid the chaos and heartbreak, one anonymous donor stepped forward with a unique and deeply meaningful gesture: donating 1,200 telekungs to women affected by the disaster.
This is not just a story about charity — it is a powerful reminder of how faith, dignity, and compassion can be preserved even in the most challenging times.
A Personal Mission of Meaning
The donor, who wishes to remain unnamed, was a long-time Zaahara customer. When the floods struck, she reached out to our team with a clear and specific request: she wanted to donate telekungs — not food or clothing, but prayer garments.
“I kept thinking about the women,” she shared with us over the phone. “In shelters, in crowded spaces, with no privacy or comfort. How could they pray in peace? How could they feel whole again?”
Moved by this thought, she decided to donate 1,200 units of our Telekung Infaq Series — lightweight, modest, and suitable for donation purposes. Within a week, the order was packed and shipped to various collection centers in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang.
Why Telekung Matters in Times of Crisis
For many Muslim women, the telekung is more than just clothing — it is a sacred space, a means of connecting with Allah, and a symbol of personal dignity. In post-disaster settings, where privacy is limited and daily routines are disrupted, having access to a clean, modest prayer garment offers emotional and spiritual relief.
One recipient in Pahang told the NGO partner:
“Saya tak sangka ada orang fikir pasal solat saya. Bila saya pakai telekung ni, saya rasa tenang balik.”
(“I didn’t expect anyone to think about my solat. When I wore this telekung, I felt calm again.”)
Designed for Donation, Built for Impact
The Telekung Infaq Series was created by Zaahara as an affordable, bulk-friendly prayer garment — suitable for CSR projects, waqaf donations, and relief missions. Priced accessibly at RM50 per piece for bulk, it is made from lightweight, breathable fabric that is easy to clean, durable, and modestly designed.
These telekungs were packed in 5-piece and 10-piece bundles and distributed through a network of NGOs, masjid committees, and local volunteers. Many were given to elderly women, single mothers, and teenagers in temporary shelters who had lost everything.
More Than Just a Donation
This initiative has now sparked conversations in the NGO and CSR space. If one person could create such an impact, what could corporations, zakat agencies, and student groups do?
Zaahara has since received inquiries from:
-
Corporate CSR teams looking to include telekung in their annual giving programs
-
University surau clubs preparing for outreach projects
-
Travel agencies creating Umrah & Hajj infaq kits
Our team is now preparing an official Waqaf Donation Kit, including:
-
Telekung Infaq Series (white)
-
Mini prayer mat
-
Drawstring pouch
-
Dua’ & encouragement card for recipients
Final Reflection
At Zaahara, we believe every act of giving can be a form of worship. What this donor did with her 1,200 telekungs wasn’t just a generous gesture — it was an act of faith, solidarity, and deep compassion.
In moments of crisis, what people often need most is not just food or money — but a sense of being seen, cared for, and remembered in their daily rituals.
If you’re looking for a way to give back meaningfully — consider making your donation one that touches both body and soul.
