Hanbing Korean Dessert Cafe is most probably one of my favourite spots to get all the korean goodies that I love. Hanbing spoils the customer with a variety of both savoury and sweet treats, all of Korean core. This means that you can get your bulgogi kimbab and strawberry bingsu (shaved ice cream) all in one little restaurant. And if I am being completely honest with you, I have definitely done that : had both my dinner and dessert at this restaurants. It definitely is on of my go-to spots if I have a throbbing Korean food craving and if I feel like spoiling myself.
First and foremost, where can you find this cute little hub? As far as I am concerned : there is one brick and mortar store in Bangsar and one more in IOI City Mall, Putrajaya (Ground Floor, at the aisle of the restaurants).
The restaurant has a packed menu of your favourite Korean treats. It ranges from tabletop cooked Toppoki (stew that is cooked on the table), Korean fried chicken, kimbab, bibimbap, kimchi fried rice, japchae, ramyeon and snow ice cream. So if you ever wanted to try something new : you definitely have different options here at Hanbing. But if you ask me : what is my absolute favourite items off the menu? Well then I have two tried and true plates. My ultimate favourite and number 1 has to be the beef ramyeon. This is not your typical, salt infused ramyeon that tastes quite one symmetrical. This ramyeon broth is so flavourful, full of layers. It’s spicy and soothing going down the esophagus . But don’t worry, the broth is not that spicy but if you do like it spicy, it comes with extra chilli on the side. The ramen noodles are cooked to a (ironically an Italian term) perfect al-dente. It has a bite to it and it seems as if it can retain all of that broth with one slurp. The ramyeon is topped with thinly sliced high-quality beef. The chewiness of the beef mixed with the warmth of the rich broth is literally amazing. You have little bites of carrot and onion mixed in there that doesn’t do much to enriching the dish but still delicious. The dish also comes with a side of kimchi (not as fermented and pungent) but it has a nice flavour to it too. The portion size is a little larger than I am used to when it comes to ramyeon but with it being that delicious, I empty the entire bowl.
Another one of my favourites has to be the Mango Snow Ice. I cannot even reiterate or emphasize on how delicious this is. I may be a little biased because I am insane about mangoes. I love mangoes so much, so having it in a cute concoction of milky shaved ice and ice cream is just what I need. Now, if you’re not a fan of mango : do not fret because the store also provides a strawberry snow ice, blueberry snow ice and even a King of the Fruits : Durian snow ice (and the smell of durian still lingers). But let me tell you, this bowl of mango shaved ice is just so delicious. The base of the bowl has a mixture of their milky snow ice with diced mangoes at the bottom. It is then topped with a heap of shaved ice (that is more similar to the texture and consistency of a snowflake than ice) and then encapsulated by fresh, sweet and juicy mangoes. You can see why I go crazy over this.
Bottom line is : Hanbing Korean Dessert Cafe is definitely some place that you have to try for yourself. Other menu items are not so hot, but they may potentially gain momentum. Because months ago, Hanbing was unheard of until their instagram worthy snow ices. Therefore, give it a shot if you have a little hankering for Korean foods. But a disclaimer, it is on the higher range of the budget. It costs approximately RM 60 to 70 for two people on average. It obviously depends on what you are getting but just be weary of that.
