5 important checklist before you perform your daily prayers

There are 5 important checklists to check before you pray. This is crucial to ensure that your prayer is not go wasted.

Step 1 – Make Your Wudu

First and foremost is the wudu.

Before we can perform your prayer we need to prepare ourselves mentally, physically, and spiritually. A large portion of this preparation is what is known as wudu. It is a purification process that every Muslim must perform before their prayer can be performed.

It is such an important part of the prayer that if anyone decides to leave it due to ignorance, forgetfulness, or negligence then their prayer will not be accepted by Allah.

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“No salah is accepted without wudu (purification)” Sahih Muslim

Step 2 – Time is essential when praying as Allah has given a specific time for each of the 5 compulsory prayer

Each of the five daily prayers has its own specified time in which it must be performed. Here are the general guidelines:

  1. Fajr – before dawn
  2. Dhur – at noon
  3. Asr – in the afternoon
  4. Maghrib – sunset
  5. Isha – nightfall

The wisdom behind the prayers being spread throughout the day is so that Muslims are constantly reminded about Allah. These are opportunities for Muslims to seek forgiveness, increase our faith, and seek guidance.

Unlike the previous generations, we are so blessed that praying is not hard as we can be constantly reminded via our smartphone apps that can remind us with reminders when the time of prayer arised. This can avoid us from missing the prayers intentionally.

Step 3 – Dress appropriately

Make sure to wear clothing that covers the necessary parts of your body.

Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) instructed the men to cover from the naval to the knee.

As for the women, he instructed them to cover their body except for her face and hands. This is known as the “awrah.”

Most part of the South East Asian regions, the women are normally dressed in prayer wear which is also known as telekung, mukena and khimar.

As for other parts of the world such as Middle Eastern for example, most ladies don’t have special attire as they are normally clad in the Abaya.

 

Step 4 – Find a place to pray that is clean

It is very important to pray in a place that is generally clean. If it isn’t clean, you can use a small rug which is also known as sejadah to cover the area you will be praying especially the head area.

There is no limitation where you can offer your prayer. As long as it is clean, you may do so. Any kind of surfaces such as grass, sand, concrete, etc.

Step 5 – Face the Qibla

Baitullah- Makkah

Kibla is based on the direction where Kaabah is. This is the uniqueness of Kaabah whereby all Muslims no matter where they are in the world will need to pray towards the same direction. There was once incident whereby Allah directed Prophet Muhammad to change Kiblat from Al-Aqsa mosque to Makkah.

 

Alhamdulillah. Now you are ready to perform the prayer.
