"The Blusa" is an instagram-based business that highlights free-fitting blouses in a variety of colours. It’s simple but flattering design makes it highly versatile in most settings. You can dress it up and dress it down, depending on what look you are going for. So I contacted the business team behind the Blusa and got an exclusive from their very own creator, Nurul Nadia.
- What inspired you to start “The Blusa”?
We have always been active in business, as a family. But one day, my eldest sister threw in the idea of creating an online business that dipped into the fashion industry. And that’s the brief summary of how it all started. We wanted to create a blouse that was both chic and comfortable for not only the muslims sisters but also anyone and everyone else.
- How difficult was it to get started?
The main challenge for us was to introduce our products, since we are relatively new in the market. It was difficult to try to break into the market, especially in terms of marketing. It is a lot of hard work and even more trial and error.
- Who inspires you most?
“The Blusa” is dedicated to my youngest sister, Farah. She is our main inspiration and motivation to continue on every single day.
- What does an average day at “The Blusa” offices look like?
It is a home based online shop, so timing is really flexible. Checking emails, making deliveries, marketing meetings with a lot of snacking in between work.
- What is you advice for anyone wanting to start their own business?
Just do it! Not to take away from Nike’s slogan, but in all honestly, it is all about the initial step. It is daunting and terrifying to walk into new ventures as such but it is all about working hard and genuine. So for anyone who is thinking of starting their own business, just start one. Slowly but surely you will figure it out on the way.
It was lovely getting to talk to Mrs. Nurul about her company and the vision she had for it. It is very clear that she is an ambitious, determined woman with a fiery spirit. “The Blusa” was more than just a business, it was a step in courage and bravery. We wish “The Blusa” the very best of luck and we pray Allah (s.w.t) grants them with success. If you want to check out “The Blusa”, go ahead and follow them at their instagram : @theblusa.
