And We have bestowed upon thee the Seven Oft-repeated (verses) and the Grand Qur'an.
Allah has mentioned about Al-Fatihah in the Quran where it is recited many times. As we all know that Surah Al-Fatihah is mandatory in every prayer, have we ever wondered how important it is?
Perhaps really ponder the meaning of the surah?
To answer this, let us look at a few more ayah in the Quran as a reflection of where we are in our prayer:
[So woe to those who pray] Mā’ūn:4
[But who are heedless of their prayer] Mā’ūn:5
Based on the sayings and interpretation of the scholars, meaning of these ayah can be:
- Men who delay their prayer beyond its time.
- Men who delay prayer till a later time (even if it is within its time).
- Those who perform ṣalāh but their hearts are not present (and neither do they make the effort to make their hearts present).
- They recite but do so without reflecting on what they are reciting.
Elsewhere in the Qur`ān, Allah subḥāneh wa ta’āla adds to this description of heedlessness in ṣalāh: when they get up to pray they get up lazily. (4:142)
After saying this, it is now our responsibility to ponder and memorise the Al-Fatihah meaning so that we can improve our solah and perhaps attain khusyuk in our future solat.
It will take numerous hours for us to attain to the highest level but with Allah's grace, InsyaAllah we can attain that faster. It depends how serious we are in pursuing khusyukness in our solah.
Al-Fatihah. Let's see the meaning one by one.
{In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.}
– Always start your affairs with the name of Allah
– His mercy is the first attribute used to introduce Allah to you
{All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds}
– Reflect on His infinite blessings
– A practical tip is to remember one blessing in each rak`ah (unit) of your prayer
{The Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.}
– The names of mercy occurred FOUR times in a relatively short Surah
– His mercy is the first attribute used to introduce Allah to you.
{Master of the Day of Judgment}
– Reflect on the Day of Judgment
– Remember that this prayer may be the last one before you meet Him.
{It is You we worship and You we ask for help.}
– This Ayah is the CORE of the Surah, and the essence of Tawhid (confirming the one-ness of Allah)
– This is a perfect moment to think about what you want from Allah, and prepare for your upcoming supplication (du`aa’) and wishes
{Guide us to the Straight Path}
– The number ONE request you definitely need from Allah is guidance, and from Him alone.
Remember that If Allah guides you, then the whole world with its temptation won’t matter, so be sincere in your reguest
{The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray.}
– Remember that you’re not the only one on the quest for the straight path.
